Back to Solo we go in the morning!

It's been a great little vacay away from placement...but tomorrow we have to head back in to Solo because the clinic reopens on Thursday morning.

Everyone is super sad to be leaving the beach...but I have missed out on 3 beach days because of the damn burn on the back of my leg! I am sure I could have gone to the beach, but I REALLY didn't wanna get any sand or dirt stuck in it and risk some sort of gross infection - that's just asking for trouble!

The day after the burn happened, Sonja and I walked for quite a few hours around town in search of an Apotek (pharmacy) that carried some non-adhesive gauze pads to cover it after putting on Polysporin. Apparently I was searching for something that doesn't exist here, also pretty tough to try and ask for something specific when no one speaks much English. I even tried the hospital pharmacy. The only things the pharmacies carried was regular gauze or gauze that was already impregnated with different antibiotics. So I bought some mesh gauze pads that contain Framycetin sulphate called Daryant-Tulle (no idea). It says on the packaging that they are indicated for the treatment of small burns, so I went for it. $1.50 a pop and they smell pretty funky! :s After that we just walked around and explored the main streets of Pacitan and then took a little Tuk Tuk home - we deserved a treat since we had already been walking for 3 hours or so.

I wasn't gonna let my burn slow anyone else down so I just keep sending them off to the beach while I have been catching up with friends/family on Skype (especially Dani after her engagement!!) and reading my book on the porch. I really can't complain - the other girls feel bad of course, but I could care less. I don't LOVE the beach like they do anyways, and this way I haven't been plastered with sand and sunscreen at the end of the day :) Plus, I still have quite a few weeks left in this trip that could involve wicked beach days.

Tonight we tried a new restaurant (finally) since we were all getting sick of Rajawali. It's good food, but we have pretty much eaten it twice a day for a week. It was tough last week because most other restaurants were closed around town. We went to a restaurant tonight based on a recommendation of a guy staying at Harry's Ocean House. It was a seafood place that serves BBQ's fresh fish or chicken, depending on what they have for the day. Today our options were tuna, mackerel, and chicken so I tried the chicken and mackerel - pretty good!

Some people from Harry's have a fire on the beach most nights, but the last time everyone went I stayed back because I didn't have anything that could properly cover my leg. Jytte and Christy were determined to convince me to come to the fire on the beach tonight, so when we stopped at the Indomart for them to buy Bintang beer, Christy decided she was going to buy some pantyliners to tape over my gauze for extra protection! So...yes, I have a pantyliner stuck to my leg right now!

End of story, hopefully I find something better to cover this thing up when we get back to Solo!

Also, for my own interest, I decided to document the healing of my burn...so you might wanna ignore a few pictures attached to this entry if you don't like looking at that kind of stuff! :)
