Ahhh...stayed in bed til 8am this morning! First sleep in of the trip for us and it was glorious.

Today marks the end of Ramadan and the end of the fasting period for Muslims, today is called Eid al-Fitr, a day of celebration of common unity.

We also arranged scooters to rent from the owners of Araya for 50,000 RPU/day ($5 bucks). Only a couple of people had driven scooters before, so we spent a bit getting adjusted to the scooters...and driving on the left hand side of the road! The scooters didn't have much gas in them and driving to find fuel this morning was like searching for open gas stations on Christmas Day! But we found some!

We took the scooters over to Harry's Ocean House to see about renting surf boards from them. They only had one "beginner" board (longer boards that are easier to float on and more stable) that was a 9ft board and then another that was 7'8". We took them both just to give it a go. Our scooters came equipped with racks on the side to carry the surf boards. We were set...just had to make it to the beach without tipping the scooter!

We were told by the owner of Harry's Ocean House that we have to be careful wearing bikinis on the beach because it isn't common here and definitely frowned upon. I had worn my one-piece suit just incase I was going to be surfing so that was lucky. The other girls tried to cover up whenever locals were on the beach, but for the most part we were OK cause the beach was pretty well deserted! :)

Jytte and Christy were the only ones to try surfing today, I was perfectly happy lying on the beach, dipping in the waves and taking a few pictures instead. I might surf tomorrow if we hit the beach again.

After another dinner at the Rajwahali Hotel up the road (because not much else was open), we went to a sit by a fire on the beach with a couple people we met at dinner. Everyone brought a Bintang to drink by the fire...except me. One of these days I will just give in to my dislike of beer, but right now I am perfectly fine not drinking something I don't enjoy 'just cause'. Perhaps my time on Java will be a few weeks of "detox" although I do miss wine and vodka!
