Where I stayed
Toorak Road Baby!!
Hello All,
Just a little update from Melbourne...Basically everything is still amazing here in this great city! I am still working at the same restaurant and have decided that I am going to work there for the full 6 months that I am permitted on my visa. There is no way that I am ready to leave Melbs, and I actually have a great time working there and have made some life long friends so i figured why move on? The company plans some great things too - for example we had a beer tasting evening at Little Creatures Beer Cafe, as we started to stock some of their lines, which was really good fun and all for free. So I have 3 months left at the same place and then there is a possibility that I will stay a little longer here, as I have been promised a fair few jobs (if I want them) at surrounding restaurants...everyone in the industry kind of knows each other here so I can basically move from place to place as I wish, which is handy!
So the most exciting news is that Nina and I moved into a little apartment! It is a pretty hillarious little place and the building may perhaps be a little rough around the edges...but who cares - its ours!! Our building kind of stands out within the neighbourhood, which is pretty swanky (Toorak Road for those who may know), but we love it! The location is totally perfect for us too, just around the corner from Chapel Street - which is this really great road full of bars, restaurants and shops! Couldn't really be in a better place! We can also walk to work along the Yarra River, which is a really nice walk and considering that we have been having great weather recently, it saves us a fortune in train fares and taxis! A guy at work is giving me a bike too so that will be so handy to get around the city and home from works ect - and don't worry Nana...I will be getting lights, a helmet and some high vis jackets!!
I can't describe how great it is to be out of the hostel too - so nice to come home from work and have a place to chill out and call home for a while. The hostel, despite being a pretty good one as far as hostels go, was really starting to drive me insane!
A few weeks back I had won a dangerous MAGNUM of Belvedere Vodka from work in a little selling competition we had, and thus of course we had a small celebratory drink on our first night in the new gaff. Not all of it was consumed, but lets just say enough.
Yesterday we hired a little car for the day, and after getting over the fact that I was to be driving a maroon Nissan Micra for the day (sorry any Micra owners, but really), the four of us took off to explore the Great Ocean Road. We were really lucky and had a nice sunny day, and had a great time stopping off at all the view points to admire the amazing scenery...and of course a few quick pitt stops for ice cream and fish and chips - well it is the seaside after all!! We drove all day and went as far as The 12 Apostles - which were breathtaking to see! There was a huge Billabong surf competition going on at Bells Beach - a little surf town, which we of course stopped off at for a little look. Possibly for the surfers more than the surfing, but yes, all good! We also managed to spot a few wild Koala bears in the trees which was great to see, as they are notoriously difficult to find and thus far I hadn't seen any! For some, (ahem Nina) the highlight of the day, and possibly her life, loser, was seeing the lighthouse from the show Round The Twist, which we used to watch as kids!
The F1 was on in Melbourne recently, and it was crazy to experience how load that thing is!! Honestly across the city you could hear this sound, which I can only describe as a large swarm of bees buzzing everywhere!! I didnt wactually go to watch the race, but I did serve alot of the drivers at my restaurant, including Jenson Button - which was a much better idea in my book!! He was very nice, and we chatted about England for a while! The others, I have to say were pretty miserable!
Well other than working hard, playing hard(er) and nesting in the new home, that is about to report of late. I could talk forever about how great Melbourne is, but now that we have a place there is no reason for you to not come and sample for yourself - all very welcome!!
Missing everyone loads, email updates from home alwasy welcome please!
Until next time xx
