Where I stayed
Day trip from Wellington
I wanted to get out of the city as I hadn't left since I went to see the seals a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't go skiing as most places don't give you much notice for interviews and I needed to save some cash as I have been going around and around the city. It was awful weather cold and raining...typical Wellington weekend. We headed out in the car and by the time we stopped for coffee after leaving the city it was amazing and clear. I went with my Kiwi friend Brent and we picked up his kids in Poritua and headed onto Paekakariki.
We walked through the forest on the way to the look out and I was turning back talking and turned around just in time to smack my forehead straight into a branch. I had a headache and felt a little bit of an idiot but the view from the top was worth it. The boys played on the rope swing but I wasn't convinced I wasn't going to fall off it with my headache so didn't try myself.
Next we went to the beach where Brent was taking photos of the kids throwing powder paint at each other as he is a professional photographer. There were some great shots of them all together. We were playing with the sea and running away from the water when I ran backwards to escape the water and didn't see a tire behind me and just went flying backwards. I hit the back of my head so hard I saw stars and lay there dazed for a bit. Eventually I woke up to 'watch out for the water' so lifted my legs up using the tire as I didn't feel well enough to stand up in time. To demonstrate how hard I hit my head there was no sand on my legs whatsoever just my back so I fell straight with no bracing. I had a headache for 3 days afterwards and took it easy with early bedtimes until it wore off and I stopped feeling dizzy and my head stopped pounding.
