Where I stayed
I spent some time sorting out stuff out thinking the sunshine lasts forever so no need to rush out but...I get to the beach and it starts raining! The first time I have seen rain since the Laos thunderstorm. I get off the beach to get coffee then debate whether to head back to the beach and decide to go for it. The weather is fabulous again and the water amazing. I met a guy in the sea just swimming nearby. It was nice to chat to Ryan from NZ for a while...company is always good
I was also very naughty. I wondered into a 5 star hotel nearby and just jumped into the pool. I know it's technically not allowed but I figured no-one was going to notice. And I was right. So after my walk down the length of the beach I had somewhere to chill out on my back looking up at the sun with palm trees framing the view. During my walk I realised I inadvertantely chosen the right end of the beach. As I walked up to the head I saw the water getting murkier with more leaves and rubbish in it. Also it got more packed with bars and people lying right on top of each other sunbathing. I definately feel like you don't get much more here than you would in Mombassa. You definately couldn't tell you were in Thailand when on the beach or in the town. I think a lot of people come out here for a fortnight and manage to completely avoid coming to terms with being in Thailand. They only meet other Westerners, eat western food and spend the whole time on the beach or at the pool. It also reminds me a lot of our holiday to Dubai.
I am looking forward to exploring the other islands and maybe getting off the beaten track a little. Who knows I may even find my own private setting of The Beach..!
