It was strange to be back in the city after being on the slopes at the weekend. I can't really remember much about Auckland from last time. I went out for lunch with my friend's housemate and I actually managed to drink red wine...at lunchtime and everything! Shocking hehe! There is nothing like drinking in the afternoon to make you feel like you are on holiday..it reminds me of Kauk's Bay in SA while I was staying with my sister overlooking the water drinking lovely wine...perfect.
I decided at the weekend that I was going to head down to Queenstown to get a rubbish job so I could ski every day so instead of what I expected with job hunting and sorting out flats etc I was at a bit of a loose end. There isn't a huge amount to do in Auckland if I am honest but I imagine it is more of a city for locals than tourists. I went up the Sky tower and saw 360 degree view of the city which was awesome. There are so many sail boats out in the bay ... makes me want to learn how to sail while I am here and makes you realise why it is known as the City of Sails.
I went for a walk across the city which was supposed to be 13km but I think I ended up on a massive detour because of building work in Mount Eden. I was absolutely exhausted from walking for 5 hours...and Auckland is very up and down as it was built on a load of extinct and not so extinct volcanos. It was good to get a view of the rest of the city instead of just the CBD and Mount Eden is a cool area with coffee shops and the rest .. I even had Frerror Rocher icecream which was as good as it sounds! The weather was sunny and warm the whole week which was a massive improvement on Sydney! Warm enough to wear t shirts and jeans in the day..but considering it was winter it was a massive improvement to the 4 months of cold and grey you get in UK.
