Sensory overload, plethora of stuff.  Abastos is Oaxaca City's major Saturday market, where people from all over the region descend early in the morning to buy and sell goods.  Fruits and vegetables, fresh baked bread, live and butchered meat, chocolate, mole, cheese, toys, clothes, shoes, agricultural and livestock supplies, pet food, spices, herbs, amulets, pinatas, you name it.  After milling around the crowded and narrow labyrinth of passage ways and alleys for an hour and a half, I was feeling to need for a bit of space.  A walk across the street to Las Casas for a 30 peso (bout $2.50) hair cut didn't alleviate my nerves.  The specialized street, occupied by one salon or barber after another, is serendaded by the sound the employees make as they whistle, wave, shout and catcall potential customers walking down the street.  I finally chose the shop that was putting forth the least effort to get my attention.  Afterward, a short walk brought us to the raised and open courtyard surrounding Cathedral Soledad.
