Day 25: INNSBRUCK–LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND. Saturday 23 July
Time this morning to get acquainted with Innsbruck. The orientation tour includes the famous Golden Roof. Later, drive through the valleys and villages of the mountainous Tyrol to the Arlberg tunnel descending into Switzerland. Stop briefly in Vaduz, Liechtenstein's capital, before heading for Lucerne. (B)
Hotel: Schiller Pilatusstrasse 15 Lucerne CH-6002 Switzerland Tel: 00 4141 2268787
Note: City center is 10 min walk or 3 min drive from the hotel.
What we did:
Up at 6:30, depart our hotel 7:45 to see historic downtown Innsbruck. It’s beautiful and there’s another Swarovski store too. They also had the box of loose crystals we didn’t spot at the factory showroom so we got some this time as did others. We leave Innsbruck at 10:10 and proceed to Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein for lunch. We drive through beautiful Tyrolean mountainous scenery and tunnels, the longest of which is 15 km. We had a rest stop at 11:45 in one of the typically attractive Austrian places where you pay your 50 cents and get back on the bus. We arrived in Liechtenstein at 12:50 and Chiara showed us a Donair place that had good food and was quick. Since we had to leave at 2:00 this was a good time saver so we could explore Liechtenstein. There’s not much downtown but the most attractive area was the residential area that we walked through. I counted 6 construction cranes so in 5 years it will certainly look different.
