What we did:

Up at 7:00 and departing at 8:30 for Austria via Velden. It was overcast and we saw the first rain since the beginning of our Cosmos tour. At our first rest stop everyone there was in pants and jackets so were certainly not in Southern Europe anymore. 15 minutes later we were in the mountains looking down on gorgeous alpine villages. We stopped for lunch at 11:45 in Velden Austria which is an attractive town on a lake. We had our first authentic Pork Snitzel which is a disappointing breaded deep fried pork heart attack on a plate. Back on the bus while we snoozed, one of our travel buddies snapped our picture and passed it around the bus. We woke up, checked the picture out, and had a laugh too. Our last stop at 3:15 was a highway Autogrill and the best looking one so far. It backed on a forest with a huge greenhouse dining area, playground for kids and 0.5 Euro for a clean modern restroom. Back on the bus Chiara tried to teach us some German with limited success, except for one word; Beer which means Beer, so everyone memorized that one. We arrived at the hotel at 5:40 and it's big and busy with lots of buses coming and going. We changed rooms because the AC didn’t work but we found that’s common in this hotel. It was a cool day, there’s a big window so we opened it and got our laundry done since it’s the first day of a two day stay. After getting directions from the front desk we decided to walk to downtown Vienna or the Kartner Strasse which is the main pedestrian street. It took 30 minutes to get to where it’s just the pedestrian area and we found a good restaurant the "Ferdinandt" just behind the Kartner Strasse. Nancy had yellow chicken curry and I had Gulash (Kesselgulash) and both were delicious. We walked a bit and then took a cab back which was 10 Euros.
