What we did:
First King size bed so far and very comfy along with functioning AC, so slept well
. I enjoyed my breakfast buffet with good bacon, eggs and coffee followed by a bus ride to the port of Venice at 8:30. Then we transfered to our same private boat as per last night and arrived 9:50 in St Mark’s Square. We split up after arriving at the Square with 26/31 going for the Gondola rides. Five of us stayed to meet with Chiara 20 minutes later and she arranged for us to see the Murano glass making demo and store. Although I’ve seen glass making before it’s always magic and this chap was a wizard. In about 4 minutes he took a lump of molten glass and produced a beautiful pitcher. After the demo Daniel took us upstairs to show and explain different kinds of glass which again was very interesting. We then toured the store and were dazzled by all the incredible glass work which ranged from 10 to 120,000 Euros. After the Murano tour Nancy and I carried on to forge our way through throngs and find the famed Rialto Bridge. We found it, weren’t impressed by it but were by the view of Grand Canal traffic from it. We once more beat our way through the crowds to find some very nice back streets and alleyways. We did what I found to be the most fun of all in Venice and watch all the different families from around the world drift by in Gondolas. More fun I think than actually doing the ride (IMHO). We were heading back to St Mark’s Square and dropped into a little restaurant for a snack and drink. We met a couple from Yorkshire who were staying in Venice 5 minutes away. They said they were at this restaurant yesterday and it’s very reasonably priced for Venice
. We had a deadline of 2:00 to meet for the optional Burano tour so chilling and chatting here for an hour was working great. 29/31 left at 2 to see some more islands of Venice before arriving in Burano at 2:40. Most went to see the lace demo but five of us found a nice patio and cold refreshing "Birra Moretti" to better observe Burano. It was a warm day so we were joined shortly by most of our party to help us observe and enjoy Birra Moretti. Nancy was more enthusiastic and energetic than us so she went off to explore and take Burano pictures. We left Burano at 4:00, stopped in Venice at 4:35 to pick up the other two who didn’t go, arrived at port 5:15, boarded bus to arrive hotel at 5:45. This optional was worth it and nice break from Venice because of the crowds there. Our best Venice experience was the first night when it wasn’t so busy and it certainly is worth seeing. Chiara said it was the most visited place in Italy which I don’t doubt as we even saw a huge cruise ship pulling in as we were returning to our hotel. We had the included supper which was good and served by a most pleasant staff. One of our group sang a lovely song to a couple celebrating their anniversary which everyone really enjoyed. .
