Did anyone notice we didn't have an M.O.T.D yesterday - or are you bovvered? We didn't meet anyone worth a mention at all- as we said , this place is deserted!
Apart from a few drips the rain that had been forecast didn't arrive last night... but its still extremely hot and sticky today and the skies are grey. That doesn't stop us swimming in the pool by ourselves again- we wonder if we will have anyone to share it with later!
Theres no internet connection here (the park is quite remote - about 20km to towns in any direction) but we spend a while writing up the blog in the nice cool laundry room. We are thinking of dad and Julia today - on the plane and due to arrive in Melbourne tonight. Hope you have a good flight and see you soon!
Melaina, the park owner usually cooks a meal in the bistro on Wednesdays but for tonight we've agreed to give her the night off as there are only a few people here it wont be worth her while. So, because we haven't got anything to cook for ourselves we go back into stawell this arvo. D.O.T.D. will be t bone steaks, pasta and corn on the cob, cooked on the Barbie. Yummie. Got pud too - white chocolate mud cake. More yummie. Cant wait till its dinnertime! We see P.O.T.D. in town - britza- wonder if the owner is a pom?
In a few days time we will hit the madness that is Melbourne motorway and as jim isn't very complimentary of aussie driving skills he decides to try and fix mazs hooter, which has never worked. Bev and nats don't want to get involved so go for another swim, jim will follow shortly...
An hour later, jim gets his swim whilst waiting for the next rac man we are destined to meet! Now its not just maz's horn that wont work....could it be something to do with the immobiliser? Nattie crosses everything- she doesn't want to be stranded here any longer than necessary and we were hoping to go to lively ballarat tomorrow...
It flummoxed the mechanic for a while too, but just as the rain starts maz wakes up. No need for another tow truck. Huge sigh of relief from jim (definitely his fault this time!). horn still doesn't work tho'. Best left alone. We'll just shout at all the looney Melbournian drivers instead. Bring on the road rage...
So, dinner was later than first planned but was worth the wait.
We get to bed about 10.30 (Harrys scheduled eta - are we there yet?) but we are not asleep for long... the rain that had fallen sporadically for a few minutes at a time has now  turned into a real humdinger of a storm- we are awoken at 2am by an almighty clap of thunder right over our heads!the rac man had only told us a few hours ago that the cause of last years devastating bushfires was a lightening strike on a nearby tree, and now the lightening was flashing all around us! The tent was bearing up well but a few drips were beginning to filter through as we sat in the dim light, hoping that the storm would soon blow over. then, after another flash of lightening all the caravan park lights went out. The electric had blown. Enough was enough. We had our little camping lantern and despite getting quite wet we grabbed our duvets and headed for the sanctuary of the laundry room, to spend the rest of the night in. there was a table and chairs in there and it was warm and dry so we prepare ourselves for a long wait until daybreak. If only we had some dollar coins and some electricity we could have used the tumble drier!
We were only in there about 20 mins when we heard a car approaching. Bob the park owner had got out of bed to come to our aid. Can we fix it - yes we can - bob has a key to a chalet for us! When we make a dash for it the storm seems to be subsiding but no worries, we'll be ok for the rest of the night. Good on ya bob! Forget the tent until the morning...
Bob has to be the M.O.T.D award today but it was a close run thing with the rac man!A real thunderbirds disaster episode eh!
