Well, we've read all the leaflets from the tourist office so port Lincoln it is - direction south. The sydneys say cheerio - they re continuing eastwards to port augusta and want to be home in Sydney for Christmas. They very kindly invite us to stay if we get there so who knows - maybe we will see them again...
Our route takes us past smokey bay, streaky bay and back beach - all reminders that we haven't had any breakfast so the next place we come to we raid the bakers... the currant buns were delicious but no bacon rolls!
Thers quite a lot of empty space again between places, the scenery is rolling countryside with lots of fields of golden corn and everynow and then, glimpses of the ocean glistening in the sun. we see a sign for murphy's haystacks and something rings a bell with bev, cant remember what it is here but as its only 3km off the main road we go and take a look. Oh wow! Inselbergs. Now we know what they are! Big blobs of millions of years old granite stuck on a hillside! Stonehenge- eat your heart out. Bet some weird things have happened here too - we had the place to ourselves apart from the flies. Its getting very hot! Could have stayed for ages just to admire the view and take lots of silly photos but we needed to carry on  driving - we were miles from anywhere! Another amazing Australian landscape. We are so lucky not to have missed this one!
At Elliston we picnic near the beach and decide to change direction - its still quite a long way to port Lincoln so at this point we head east, cutting straight across the eyre peninsula, with its hills and valleys and not much else! We seem to be heading away from civilisation again and as we were not sure what port Lincoln had in store for us  we make our way towards our next big goal - Adelaide and the ferry across the spencer gulf. On the way we pass through a funny little place called lock. We pulled up outside a shop to get an icecream and the old car in front of us had a key sticking out of its boot - the ladies loos there didn't have a lock on the door - so when in lock don't bother locking!
