Where I stayed
Janet and Franz's place
I got up at 11:30. A dream kept me down. I had cold cereal and started packing up. I got all my ice packs and the guns out to the car before 1:00. Grandma ran a quick errand. I watched the end of Vision Quest I stripped the bed and was down to one trip. I wished I could just skip the goodbyes. I finished the leftover rice and tofu from last night and talked to Grandma on the porch. She gave me a parting gift and then we played Cribbage at 1:30. I just couldn't leave without that after all my talk of relearning it. She beat me good. We said our goodbyes and I carried out my last load. I left at 2:45.
I drove north on 13. Drives are so often said because I've just said goodbye. I parked at an antique place and ate a plum down by a river in New Boston. I continued east and went through Goffstown and then north through Dunbarton. Soon I was headed east on 89 and then north on 93 for a few miles. Then I go off two exits south of Sanbornton to drive the back roads past the Quaker Village, which was about eight miles off the freeway. I parked there at 4:15 and walked around for 15 minutes. No one was around and it was peaceful. I was glad I got off the freeway to drive through small towns. It had been a lovely drive all day.
I landed at 5:00, right after Janet. Sam drove up soon after me and he and Franz mostly worked on the car, oil change, and ran an errand. They were in and out while Janet and I tried out a new recipe for dinner. It was a potato, tomato, onion casserole with cumin and basil. I helped slice the tomatoes, potatoes and we went out to her amazing garden to get basil. We talked and had a beer. Janet said we could go rent a movie so I got on netflix to look up new movies but she had literally seen nearly every one that I suggested. It was funny. We talked about family, travel and soul mates. I don't really think there's only one right person for each of us anymore. I really enjoyed this conversation.
Sam went back to his new place before dinner. He's very busy with school and work these days. Finally Janet and I settled on Harold and Maude on instantwatch because she couldn't believe I hadn't seen it yet and it seemed to fit into our discussions. First, she layered in all the ingredients and got the casserole in the oven by 7:30. Then we started the movie and Franz joined us. We also snacked on cheese and rhubarb chutney on crackers. I liked the movie so far. We stopped to get dinner ready and ate at 9:00. It had had to cook a long time but it was so worth the wait. It had so many flavors. I can't wait to try it at home. We also had cottage cheese and really good bread and we all got seconds and thirds. After cleanup, computer time and a phone call, Janet and I finished the larger portion on the movie in the other room while Franz worked on something for the propane system. I was glad to finally see this movie. What a unique story and great soundtrack by Cat Stevens. We went up to bed shortly after 11:00. I was in the guest room. I stayed up a couple more hours online.
