I write this without notes a week and a half later as well. I slept until 9:00 or 10:00 and probably had bread and hummus for breakfast. I drove back into town to see the harbor during daylight and walked onto the memorial pedestrian bridge. Then I continued northeast on US-1 through Searsport and Bucksport and by many lakes and ponds. At Ellsworth I headed southeast on route 3 and onto mount Dessert Island toward Bar Harbor, but turned into Acadia National Park. I parked at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center probably around noon and had more of the same out of my cooler for lunch. I walked up lots of steps to the visitor center. It was sprinkling and looked like a storm was coming. I got a park brochure, watched the half hour park film and then headed off for the park loop road. And it started to rain really hard. I finally got out my Columbia Sportswear coat for the first time on my trip or I would have been soaked. I made a few stops at viewpoints though the views didn't have much distance. I could only take picture looking in one direction because of the rain.

I had an exciting stop at Sands Beach, the only beach in the park. Only a few of us bundled up were braving the storm. I spent half an hour in the mid afternoon walking up and down the short beach and around the estuary. The rain felt good on my face and I actually smiled. I was the first time I had felt relaxed in days actually. I was very pleased to experience a wild Maine day on my farthest point northeast on this trip.

I only made a couple more stops the rest of the way around the park loop because it was so rainy and I couldn't really see anything anyway. I was looking for a place to cook dinner before I parked at the Holiday Inn for the night. So, near the end of the loop, I turned up the Cadillac Mountain road and wound my way up the mountain. Yes, I passed several other cars. The wind and rain were so strong up on top and I couldn't see anything. I felt cozy in my home. It was sometime after 5:00 and I set my one burner camp stove on the floor of my car and lit her up. Yes it was safe AND necessary. I just had beans and fixings. I WAS able to get reception on the mountain top and so called home. I headed back to the big Holiday Inn I had looked up and scoped out in Bar Harbor. I was settled there for the night by 7:00. It was so early but I was feeling pretty dirty and wretched, definitely not up for going out. I was lonely but didn't want to talk to anyone except for the one who didn't want to talk to me. So I just snuggled down with internet as long as my computer battery lasted. I think I just watched shows and did facebook and map stuff.
