Where I stayed
CS: Katharine's place
OK yesterday was traumatic and I don't want to say anymore about it here because gets me upset again. I didn't park in Manhattan until 3:00 and then I had to pack my backpack with valuable and everything I would need, as well as batten up the car. I parked on Riverside Drive at like 131st St. I gave my host, Katharine, a heads up and also called home for awhile. I walked a few blocks to Katharine's on 135th around 4:00. I talked with her and boyfriend John until 5:30. I filled them in on my last CS experience but we mostly talked about our lives and about what I should see in New York in two days. But Katie is from New Jersey and John is from Rochester, New York. Both are mid to late 20s. She is an anthropology grad student at Columbia and he teaches at an inner city high school hereThen John left to meet a friend downtown and we girls started making ourselves presentable. Katie made pasta with clam sauce and corn on the cob. And we had cucumber salad and red wine. We left before 8:00 to meet John and friends. The subway here is so much more confusing, humid and rundown than in D.C. I would have been lost without her. We got off and walked a few blocks and met up after 8:30 at an Irish pub called Plug Uglies. I just got a beer. Average price in NYC is $6. We played some pool but never could get a hold of the free shuffle board. The three of us left and found another place just after 10:00 We listened in on their trivia night and talked about Lord of the Rings, history, movies and New York. We left about midnight and had to ride two subway trains home. We got back about 12:30 and pretty much went to bed after checking a few things online. I'm on a futon in their office.
