Where I stayed
Karon Cafe Inn
We then wandered down 200m to the beach to soak in some sun and cool off in the water. The beach was picture perfect. White sand, crystal clear water and dotted with colorful umbrellas. Although there were plenty of people there it still felt that it was quiet as the beach was open and stretched far
Our trip to Karon was primarily to meet Katie, a colleague of Ethan's and Ryan, her new Fiances. Unsure of how we would find them we took to the internet cafe. Facebook failed us so we decided to try our luck at walking the streets looking for their hotel. Luckily we did not have to walk far as the hotel was only 200m from ours, almost on the same street. We met up with Katie and Ryan for a beautiful and CHEAP dinner, then explored the bars of Karon, indulging in a few inexpensive cocktails!
After a great nights sleep in our beautiful room above the Mexican restaurant we met Katie and Ryan for a swim in their hotel pool. We lounged by the pool for a few hours then headed to another great Thai restaurant for lunch. The beach was calling us as the sun continued to beat down. The rest of the afternoon was spent lazying around on the beach and playing in the small surf! Ethan impressed onlookers as he body surfed every wave that came through!
As an afternoon we snack we tracked down a local restaurant which made Banana Splits, Sundays and Chocolate Parfaits
We headed out in search for a place for dinner and decided to venture along the beach front. We could not go past a place called The Sand Bar that was lit up with fire, white fairy lights and a sand covered floor. We began the evening with a few cocktails and beers on a massive beach couch. The rain began to fall and it sent us inside where we continued to explore the drinks list and the wood fire pizzas.
With full bellies and merry spirits we decided to visit the fish doctor. A massive fish tank with seats surrounding it filled with hungry sucker fish ready to feast upon your dead foot skin. Claiming to cure a range of skin problems and leaving feet feeling soft we parted with 150BHT for 15mins of fish nibbling pleasure. Although the screams and shrieks of Katie and Kailey would definitely have deterred some customers, this was actually a rather good feeling!
We headed to bed with fresh feeling feet and some great photos!
After a chocolate croissant and some fresh pineapple we grabbed a tuk tuk to Patong Beach to check out the shopping side of Phuket
With a bit of time to spare before meeting up with Katie and Ryan, Kailey convinced me to join her for a pedicure. Those of you who have had the joy of seeing my feet, of know how rarely I wear shoes would understand how large the task was ahead of the poor lady who drew the short straw. Kailey found the pedicure very enjoyable as well as very entertaining. Watching the tiny Thai woman hack away at my feet gave everyone a laugh, especially when she had to get a dust pan to clean up the pile (no joke, like a measuring cup full) of dead skin! EWW!
Now each time we walk past the place we get smiles, waves and many laughs.
We caught up for our last dinner with Katie and Ryan. Had a few drinks then went down to the beach to set off fire lanterns. They were rice paper lanterns that fly up in the night sky and you make a wish as you watch it disappear into the darkness. It was a very nice idea and was a great way to end our time with Katie and Ryan
We spent most of the day sorting out our visa extensions which led us to a change in plans. After getting a very expensive 7 day visa extension we decided that we could now visit Koh Phi Phi Don. And then take a little more time in the islands before moving up to Cambodia.
Its amazing how much world news you miss while traveling, while it has been nice to be able to catch up on the news in our beautiful room we are horrified at the tragedy that has swept through Hatti. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected! Its when you see heartache like this you realize how vulnerable we all are and how precious this life is. For this we promise to live every day as if it we our last, and to reach out to those who need a hand. We are so grateful for the incredible opportunity to travel the world together and will cherish every minute of it!
Buckets of love to everyone! xx
