Where I stayed
Once at the train station we met a few interesting characters. While on my way to grab another bottle of water, I crossed paths with a man in his 40's, crazy pants, massive set of headphones and long wire like skullet (balding mullet). And he said as follows, "Excuse me, I wonder if you could help me, I have a friend who needs a place to stay. I wonder if you would have room in your heart for Jesus Christ?"
He then walked towards the head high air conditioner and pressed his nose up to it, closed his eyes, and stood there in front of it, music in his ear, breeze though his locks and went back to his own little place of joy
The train ride was much longer than we expected. 12 hours in total broken up by the Malaysia and Thailand boarder crossing. We had booked beds but because our stop was scheduled for just after midnight we they did not set them up, so we just sat for the journey. I really don't know how to put this trip into words, it was not a bad train ride but it just seemed like the train was never going to stop and we were giddy and over tired. It ended up pulling up after 2am and we flopped off onto the platform,
We found the closest hotel that we had seen in the Lonely Planet book (Thanks Wendy) and waited in the entrance for about 20 mins until we saw the buzzer to push. At this stage we were so tired that we would have slept in a manger so with a quick look at the room we checked in and finally got to stretch out our legs under the mosquito net. The room was basic but had a massive bed and was about $11AU a night.
We woke this morning to the sound of a traffic light (A man with a whistle), and got ourselves ready for the next stage of our journey to Phuket. We missed the first bus by 10 Mins so as I am writing this we are sitting in the most amazing chairs at an Internet cafe without the cafe part. We have a 4 hour bus ride ahead of us then another short bus to Karon Beach where we will meet up with Katie and Ryan. (Teacher from Grovedale P.S)
