Currently, we are staying on Kibbutz Lotan. Apparently it's fairly well known around Israel as an ecological kibbutz, that is still cooperative. Originally, a kibbutz was a "socialist" community, where everyone shared everything and worked together as a community. Over time, these kibbutzim (plural kibbutz) have lost this sense of community cooperation, and Lotan is 1 of 30 out of 270 kibbutzim in Israel that is still cooperative. This kibbutz is really beautiful, and the desert is wonderful. Normally, this would be that last thing I would ever say, but given that it's still the end of winter/early spring here, the temperature isn't too bad. In the height of summer, it gets up to 120 degrees here....pass. But right now it's just lovely, actually I spent about 30 minutes in a hammock outside our room today just enjoying the day. The community here is very friendly and welcoming, and we've all really enjoyed our time!

So far, we've had a couple of different ecological meetings, just seeing how the kibbutz works to live in an environmentally friendly way. This morning we took a 3 hour walk around the outside of the kibbutz, learning about the desert and their date palm plantations. also, the Jordanian border is about 150 yards away, which was kind of cool. We all waved :)

Tomorrow, we go to the Red Sea to snorkel!!! SO EXCITED! Apparently, the Red Sea has really fantastic snorkeling, and I'm excited just to sit on the beach for an afternoon. A little relaxation should be nice!!
