Victoria to Tofino
Today we had one basic plan; get to Tofino c 3 ½ hour drive from Victoria. But we started early with a picnic in a park accompanied by waxwings, scrubtits and red-breasted nuthatch - [for Megan - muesli, yoghurt, juice, croissant and fruit!!].
We then had a little stroll around a local lake - Swan Lake - Cassin's Vireo being the new bird here. Good views of nesting Marsh Wren and blackbirds plus rufous hummers.
Soon though it was time to head north before heading west. Every drive has been scenically a good one although we've been told that the scenery will greatly improve - it's difficult to imagine how. We had a few great stops for some roadside photography along the way before arriving at 'Just Birding' B& B. The first B stands for beds - of which there weren't enough and the second B stands for breakfast which we didn't get. The house was really good but sadly the owner may need a few more clues.............
Cooked tea here ourselves - pork steaks and veges plus Canadian beer & wine. Tofino is a magic place and the sea and the islands and the coniferous forests that surround it are, to me, more enchanting.
