Today the weather worsened. More fog. More drizzly rain. Undeterred though we stuck to the original plan; first stop Yangming Shan National Park [a montaine NP to the north of the city] and then, in the afternoon, a return to the lowlands to the Guan Du Wetlands.

Yangming Shan NP had a beauty when in the forest. Mist and fog flooded through the forest causing the many spiderwebs to glisten. Very few birds though - at least in these conditions. Grey headed Fulvetta and Vinuous throated Parrotbills being the Early [and only highlights]. A few unidentified [and unidentifiable probably] lizards were seen deliberately stalking along the mossy branches and we saw one 'make a kill'. We visited an area where the sulphur smell was strong - volcanic vents were releasing clouds of the gas. Luckily it was near a well placed store where we could get a hot drink.

Before leaving the mountain we were treated to a nest site visit of the Taiwan blue Magpie. Stunning birds and seen in good numbers. Apparently they must communally raise the young [of which there was 2]. Steve, one of the guys, got too close too often and was dive bombed for his trouble. He survived without blood loss.

Another Chinese banquet split the day and  soon we visited the wetlands. Quite a good set up with the major focus being on public education. A huge huge interpretive centre sat sqarely in the middle of the park and could be seen literally for miles around. A couple of hundred school kids were enjoying running around and especially enjoying the noise that school shoes and bird hide floors can create when brought together aggressively. A few good spp here including good views of Eurasian magpies plus numerous egrets, herons and night herons plus small passerines. Again good views of a [different] lizard spp.

Back to the hotel at 5 and back to the lobby for a 7pm departure for the airport for our 11pm flight. The hotel very kindly, without any arm twisting, allowed us to keep our luggage in our rooms all day. Also allowed us to shower and change for the flight - most useful!!!

Tomorrow Canada.......................
Ps - will add photos later!

Hi Ken. You crazy bird watcher's and your shananigans. Try to avoid being dive bombed by any more asian fauna. I don't know if Taipei is my cup of tea-especially if the food is just ok.
We have no serious weather to speak of.
Lots of lovexxxmeg, boys and milliex
