This was the big day! We were going to St. Katherin's Monestary. No, we didn't walk up to the top of Mt. Sinai but Anita, Terri, Bian and the boys left at 6:30am to get there and make the trek up. Steve, Mom, Dad and I left at 8:00am left with our driver and security guard. It was a 2.5 hour drive through the desert with windy and curvy roads with heads on a swivel for the entire time but we finally got there to find that the monestary was closed for Orthodox Easter!

We had to deal with a driver that didn't get that he was not to wait for us, a security guard that didn't speak English, and no cell phone to make clear what was going on and of course, no Bian that spoke Arabic! The guards hassled us at the entrance as we didn't have a tour organized or arranged a guide to take us up to the monestary but we finally got through. We had our tickets so we started the trek up the monestary, and had a beverage as we decided what to do. After that, we walked the rest of the way to the monestary only to be told we couldn't get in-it's Greek Easter. Good thing Mom and Dad spoke Greek and got us in to wander the grounds. The church was closed but we could still see the burning bush and some gorgeous views of the churches.

It was now close to noon and the crew should be close to coming down the mountain so we waited back at the cafe and waited some more. An hour passed and we went back down a little ways and no cigar of the crew. Steve went back to the top where we thought the hikers would come down and we waited at the "Y" and we missed each other but did connect. The situation was dealt with as far as the taxi went and all 9 of us plus 2 security guards and the driver took off for Dahab which was another 2 hours away.

Security guard #2 found us a place to eat right on the water-Ali Baba. What a cool place-comfy couches, cats wandering around, and fresh fish were the order/odor of the afternoon. The three of us ordered fresh calamari and prawns and fresh lemon mint juice. Bian and the kids had fresh red snapper and calamari. We got our plate with grilled calamari, lightly battered calamari, and prawns in garlic and olive oil-check out the picture! I was quite full once we got done with all of that!

After dinner we did a little shopping on the boardwalk and then time to head back to Taba and the hotel. It took 1.5 hours to get back and we weren't ready for the hotel buffet yet. We met around 8:00 for the Italain themed night-sounded good but the chocolate pie was the best thing around. Coffee was outside by the pool and then to bed-it have been a long but fun day.
