It was time for another Friday adventure! Anita, Steve and I left Amman after our Strabucks stop about 9:00am this morning. We all remembered to set our clocks back as we switched to "winter time" or commonly known as Day Light Savings. I still haven't figured out the microwave but not that concerned about that one! Oh, we also saw our first fire complete with trucks right by the Starbucks! Of course, we had to drive by and check it out. Lot's of smoke but buildings here won't burn down as they are all cement.
A little history on Karak(or Kerak): It was an ancient Crusader stronghold and is set at the top of the city. Many battles between the Franks and Salah ad Din It is on the ancient routes travelled between Egypt to Syria during the time of the bibilical kings and also the Greeks and Romans. There is a stretch of Crusader castles built between Aqaba and Turkey. It was discovered by the same guy that discovered Petra- Jean Louis Burckhardt in 1812.
Lunch was first as we were all hungry! It was a buffet that had some good choices. All of us left full! The entrance to the castle was a little confusing but we found it, paid our 1JD and were off! We wandered for a couple hours going in and out of openings. Some had steps-Anita did one of those, some were just big holes with arches so you can only wonder what might have been there before. The castle has many levels and you kind of end up there and then go, oh. If we had been smart, we would have had the Lonely Planet guide with us as there is a great map I found once I got home. It is definately worth going to-Kia has to wait till next time-and will probably go back to do some more exploring.
Not much else going on...Hope you are all well!
