We were up and at it right away this morning. The couch is a comfy place to sleep and didn't get up until 8:20. Our itenerary was to go to Mt. Nebo and Madaba. After getting ready we packed our cameras and purses and of course, had to stop at Starbuck's for coffee. I had a Chocolate Cream Frappachino and Kirsten had a Date Frappachino. We met Eric at the Wheeler's and we went downtown to the Souk. There wasn't much open due to the Eid holidays. We did wander around and bought some onions, pammagranets, lemons and kiwi which she was ripped off on - $.70 each. She will bargin better next time. The streets were empty but we continued to walk up and down and looked around. My head was on a swivel! The downtown is very old with lots of small stores selling everything we don't need. It was a great experience. We dropped Eric off and we headed to Mt. Nebo which you have read about before. The driving is crazy and I am impresses with Kirsten's driving skills. She promised she would not drive like this when she comes home for Christmas. The people here are NUTS!!! She didn't get lost and we found it without any hesitation. The weather was warm, but the breeze was light and comfortable. The sight from the top of the mountain was spectacular. Unfortunately it was hazy, otherwise we could have seen Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. We left and headed to a beautiful mosaic shop where you could watch the locals creating the mosaics. I was amazed and stood there in awe. They had hand painted pottery, jewelry, painted ostrich eggs and Palestinian cross stitch. I bought Kirsten an early birthday present of an egg painted with the Tree of Life theme. Like a sister would, I bought the same one. It will be a beautiful remembrance. Of course, another mosaic shop. The merchandise was similar and beautiful. We headed into Madaba to St George's Orthodox Church. The church is said to have the oldest mosaic map which was constructed in 560 A.D and depicted the major biblical sights of the Middle East. It is still very clear and you can recognize the sights. We were now hungry and found a cute outside restaurant, Haret Jdoudna. We had Fattush,( garden salad), fried cheese puffs, tobbouleh and hummus. I actually ate that. I haven't starved yet. The bread is also a puffy pita. They are very indifferenct in service, so we enjoyed the scenery and of course talked. It was about 2:00 and we headed back into Amman to find two authentic Jordan craft stores, but they were closed. How dare they close on us. Kirsten has yet to make a wrong turn. We finally got back to the house, unpacked the last suitcase and did some knitting. It was a great day but dinner was still ahead. A lady that teaches with Kirsten had us to her house for dinner. Linda D. has lived in Jordan for 9 years as her husband was the Ambassador from the Phillapines to Jordan. We met at school (local meeting spot) and rode with her to her house. It was a nice apartment with a maid. Her original intention was to go our for dinner, but changed her mind due to the holiday. We had a light appetizer and then went into the dining room for dinner. It was a traditional Phillapino meal with a noodle/dumpling soup, homemade spring rolls and a peanut sauce. For the dinner it was pork chops with gravey and onions, eggplant with a beef patty grilled and a vegetable stir-fry with chicken and shrimp (eww!) and rice. The maid served us and it was very pleasant. For desert we had a custard as well as cookies and coffee. She shared many stories. My eyes were starting to droop but she insisted on driving us to an old stable called the Kan Zeman - 19th century inn and stable. We looked around, had mint tea, had our picture taken as Bedouin women and finally head home around 11:30. We pulled in at 12:00. We were both tired! Time to to to bed as tomorrow is another busy day. Still having fun and taking lots of pictures. I still like her!
