This weekend felt like another holiday! Thursday after school a group of teachers went out for "happy hour" at this British pub in Sweifiyah even though is wasn't payday. Ended up having dinner of fish & chips wrapped in paper for 5JD and a beer was only 3JD. After that, I went over to the Wheeler's with another teacher and played cards. I made a detour on the way as there is a Starbucks opening about a block from their house. As I was driving by, there were people and lights so of course, I had to stop! It was actually getting ready to open on Saturday but I was the lucky one-I got to have the first espresso made out of the machines plus I got to keep the small mug it was served in. Needless to say, the rest were jealous! Oh, darn. :-) Played Hearts and I lost-no surprise on that one!

Friday morning a group met and went to the Blue Fig for breakfast. It's located in Abdoun and was originally the coffee hot spot before Starbucks came in(yes, there is one next door). The food was great(see picture of my omelette & coffee) and was quite reasonable. The bread is a traditional thing-manquosh-that is topped with zatar-a combination of thyme, sesame seeds & olive oil and then toasted. It was very yummy but double check your teeth when you are done! After our tummies were filled, we headed to the Souk Jara as it was the last Friday it would be open as Ramadan is starting this week.(pics) It was fun to wander around and many of us bought stuff. Surprised? :-) Next on the day was a manicure & pedicure with Lisa and Anita. It was fun to be pampered for the grand cost of 13JD or about $16 for both! That night there was a party that was hosted by the parents of 2 high school kids. Not sure why I was there other than I am new and didn't know any better. It was a gorgeous, traditional Jordanian home with a southern CA feel to it as the wife is from San Diego. Tons of food and all very good. Got home about 10:30ish as the Mancuso's(rode with them) needed to get home to the boys.

Saturday was another adventure! I met the Wheeler's at their place and then we went to Starbucks. As we were sitting down, part of the Mancuso family also arrived for coffee and treats. We left to go driving around Sweifiyah to find the office store and found a treasure in this place! It has just about everything you could want and everything you don't need! We looked around for a long time in amazement at what they had. The Wheeler's are in constant amazement as they were never able to get anything like this at all when they were in Moracco 3 years ago. I am in a state of befuddlement as I often wonder if I really am in a third world country. If you are wondering about something specific, ask me-you will be surprised. From there we went to Nour Home to look for Ramadan decorations. Yes, they decorate in style with lots of lights! Once I get my stuff hung up, I will take pictures and let you see. As we got ready to leave, there was an accident in front of my car. That was going to take at least an hour as you are not allowed to move your cars till the police come so we decided to go to lunch! We walked to the walking mall in Sweifiyah and found an outdoor cafe. The food was great! Ok, so I haven't had anything I don't like yet. :-) I had the lamb with tomatoes and onions for 2.5JD and Steve had the chicken(pics included). While eating, who do we see? The Mancuso's! They were down shopping for a present and then on their way. Next on the list was fruits and the bakery. The mystery melon is back! It felt like I was back in Iran as I looked at what I thought was a cantelope. Bought fresh figs and melon plus some fabulous treats at the bakery. By now it is time to go home and grade papers. Ugh!

Called Mom and wished her a happy birthday and then off to bed. We are starting week 5 of school!!!!!
