This has been a very relaxing weekend! We just completed our third week of school and my first month in Amman. Time sure does fly when you are having fun-truely!!!

I can't believe that being here feels like home and that I have been able to find my way around. Driving is nuts-see pictures as I hope it explains the craziness of drivers around here. The pictures were taken on Sunday around noon-a work day. It gives new meaning to "rush hour" and finding a back way around to get out of the driving zoo.

So what have I done this weekend?
Thursday-After school was done, we went to the Bristol Hotel to their sports bar. The TV's were on to cricket and horse racing. Had one drink for about 6JD-don't think I will do that often or maybe I just need to drink the beer as it is the same price as a can of pop. Went home and relaxed.

Friday-drove around following Steve & Anita so that I could get used to finding the shopping area of Sweifiyah, the movie theaters at Zara Center, and a couple of other places. We stopped at Starbucks and promptly ran into one of my students and then our MS/HS prinicpal. Wondering the walking mall was amazing as there was no one around at 10:00am in the morning! I found a great bakery that was just taking breads out of the oven-what a great smell! After that I came home and cooked. I made a couple of meals so I would have made up and it felt good to have a "normal" time here. :-) That night we met at a British Pub for "Quiz Night" and it wasn't to far from my house in the Sweifiyah area. Anita and I started off the challenge against three other "regular" teams and then were joined by about 8 other ACS staff. It was a lot of fun and the beer was the cheapest yet-3JD for a pint of Amstel. Got home about 11 and went to bed!

Saturday-slept in and then went wondering in my car. Found Cozmo-another grocery store/clothing/home store and got a few groceries. Kia called while I there to test my phone to see if it worked! Ask her for directions/number if you ever want to call. Also bought international calling cards which are fabulous and easy to use. For 2JD per card, you will be able to talk for about 60 minutes to the States. Then it was home and watched college football interjected with Scott Baker's quest for a no-hitter. I was in my kitchen and heard Dick & Bert's voices and I thought I was hearing things! Nope-it was the Twins and it was fun to watch. Melissa and I went down to Sweifiyah at night to see if she could find some lamps but what a zoo! It seemed that everyone was out and shopping!!!! We wondered around for a couple of hours and luckily found where we had parked our car. :-)

Sunday-got up and went driving again! This time my goal was to find the big Starbucks that is next to the Blue Fig. While driving, went over the new bridge(see pics), and then back to have coffee. This area I was in is called Abdoun and I live on the border for Abdoun and Sweifiyah-both nice areas! Abdoun would be the Edina and Sweifiyah more like Summit Ave. with lots of embassies and dignitaries with guards in front. Filled up my car with gas-for 30+liters, it was 15JD and that filledl up my car this time. I have no idea how many kilometers that took me as I forgot to track the tank-next time. My other goal today was to find a place to print pictures and I have accomplished my goal! I was able to get prints made at a Kodak print station just like at home! I printed pictures from my school outing to Amman Waves last Wednesday and then pics from opening day of school. I had printed 30 pics for 7.5JD so just a little more than 35 cents per picture and they were done in 10 minutes. Am I really in the Middle East???

Now I am at home and have done 2 loads of laundry. I pictures of my machine and dryer. Luckily, my help comes on Tuesday so all will be ironed. Dishes need to get done but I have to wait for my hot water to heat up. Oh, I came home on Wednesday and had no water!!! Scary but my tank hadn't been filled so had to call Nashr(school maintence guy) to get water but it's back and working.

Hope you are all doing well and enjoy your weekend-
:-)
