A short stop here and it was off again towards Nice. In order to be sure we all kept awake, a small contest was started. Count the number of tunnels you drive through until you get to France. Sounds easy, right. But after having 169 marks in our guide book, we finally reached France. The views from the hills onto the Mediteranean are fantastic. Azure colored water and villas literally hanging on the edge of the cliffs
We drove above Monacco before we got to Nice, with hundreds of vachts floating in the harbour. Nice is a very large city with no really old district to speak of. But we have excursions planned for the Town of St.'Paul de Vence and back to Monacco for supper and gambling in Monte Carlo!
St.Paul de Vence is a medevial town of the 1200's on the top of a hill just outside Nice. Cheryl and I could have spent hours wandering around the town streets which are only 4 feet wide. Some great photos, a few souveniers and the best hot chocolate later we headed back to Nice to get ready for Monacco.
It is only 2 1/2 miles long, but they sure do cram in the buildings. We hit the casino, and I doubled my money before letting in ride one spin too long. Oh well, I still have the pay-out slip showing 4€ cents. Oh and the tunnel contest - Cheryl won a bottle of wine with the correct number of tunnels - so we were both winners!
