What I did
Salzburg
We left Munich from our (not quite) five star hotel and drove to Salzburg. Sound of music was filmed here and our guide pointed out a lot of wonderful spots. The castle looks down on the entire city and is very formidable. We walked through the old town taking in the sights of the old and beautiful buildings. Walking through the graveyard was eerie but it was beautiful at the same time.
We journeyed on to Vienna which sits at the farthest east of Austria along the Danube river. Our hotel is right on the banks of the river, and our room looks over the river!! Might just stay here.
In the evening, we went for a Heurigen wine tavern evening. Different way to serve food - kinda like tapas, where the food comes out in stages and you help yourself. Oh, the wine sits on the table and NEVER runs dry. Um...you finish that thought. I think we got back to the hotel early, but I recall a couple of choruses of Do,Re,Mi.
That was our first night. The next morning came early as we had a tour to the Schonbrunn Palace. There are 1400 rooms but fortunately we only got to see 40. There are gardens in the back which go on forever. Gives a whole new meaning to `go outside and play`. After this we spent the afternoon in the old square with our local guide. Tonight is a Austrian dinner. Tomorrow it is off to the land of gondolas - Venice!!
