Today we left Amsterdam in a really thick fog - heading for Germany.

Enroute we stopped for a very short tme in Cologne where there is the most amazing cathedral.  The spires are over 500 feet high! Standing outside of it and looking up literally takes your breath away. And the interior - there are really no words to adequately describe the carvings, the stained glass and the tapestries. The cathedral is about 1000 years old. Infact there is a painting inside which was done in 900 ad!

Moving on from Cologne, we headed for the Rhine river where we boarded a boat for a cruise on the river.  On the banks are cute little villages and at least a dozen castles! Very relaxing except for the crick in the neck from swivelling the head back and forth.

Another quick stop in Heidelberg, where we got to see some gorgeous vilas on the banks of the river and a view of Heidelberg castle which was built from 1200 to 1700.

We finally got to our hotel in Karlsruhe for a well deserved rest. Today was our longest travel day so everyone is pretty tired but amazed at what we are seeing.

Tomorow is off to Switzerland and Lucerne.
