The next day, we continued to drive through the north of the west coast, through the Gaeltach (parts of Ireland that are only Irish speaking) toward Westport. The weather was beautiful the whole time.
The next night we travelled north to a farm in Athenry. We cut through Galway (during rush hour) and stayed the night in the little town of Letterfrack- definately my favorite little town on the west coast. The town was nestled in the Connemara mountains on a gorgeous, secuded, bobby peninsula. After having dinner at a pub, we decided to go for a hike which I was told would be "quick". We hiked up Diamond Head, the tallest mountain in the Connemaras. The wind began to pick up and a storm soon rolled in and before long we were drenched. We continued up the mountian despite the driving rain and wind and went back to our hostel to dry off. What was supposed to be a one hour hike turned into a several hour ordeal, but well worth it!
