We stopped over in Johannesburg for a night on the way to our safari.  I haven't seen much of my sister Andrea, her husband John and their children Grant and Simone over the years since I have been away from South Africa. This was a good opportunity to have a bit of a catch-up!

They picked us up from our hotel near the airport and they drove us back to their place on the other side of the city giving us a bit of 'tourist information' along the way. I think Kylie was a bit amazed by the size of the townships (or 'informal settlements' as Andrea prefers them to be known as). And the sign saying "this is a smash and grab area" was a bit of a surprise to me I have to admit. But we were told that this is a normal thing for Johannesburg.

We spent the afternoon sitting on the verandah sipping wine, and waiting for the braai (that's a bbq for all you non-Saffas out there) that John prepared for us. And it was well worth the wait.  Nice one John! It was great.   I tried to work off a bit of the food by playing some bat and ball with Grant and Simone. I'm still not sure who won?

Before we knew it we were on our way back to the hotel and waiting in anticipation for the safari that started the next day! Thanks to Andrea and family for a fun day.
