Orphans
Ken's House
So,
Now I have moved to Busia, Uganda and I volunteer at an orphanage. So far I have mostly been working with micro-finance. I introduce women to the program rules, help them create loan applications and business plans, teach basic budgeting and saving, and help to create loan repayment schedule and business evaluations. I live with 4 really cool older orphans in a nice house with hot water, a refrigerator, power and access to good internet, good mosquito nets and a comfortable bed. You can tell I have been living in the village when I consider all of this luxury.
So far I have not done much with the orphans because they went home(?). I . I go over to the orhanage and sing gospel music with the kids occasionally and I want to start a choir. I also play duck duck goose with them. When the rest of the orphans return from home (dont ask) I will do life skills training with them.
There is a lot of down time which i am currently using to work on Novi lesson plans because I am crazy and also part time work for an NGO in Benin via the internet. I also read a-lot of development books - more books than i have read in my life ( 6).
I am now getting a little broke because expenses are going up ( fuel/food) so I will be traveling a lot less and on cheaper trips. Though i am torn because all my friends are leaving Uganda in July, so i wondering should i splurge and hang with them now in Kampala or be conservative in hopes ill meet new people to visit in Kampala later. Decisions, Decisions!!!
Well as always
