We arrived in Kampot in the middle of the day and like most of the time, getting off of the bus we were immediately harassed by tuk tuk drivers and guesthouse owners. There was one guest house that had pictures and said that they would give us a free ride to go look at it and if we did not like it they would take us where we wanted. The free ride sold us since it was soo hot and sunny. We got to the guesthouse not expecting much and the rooms were actually really clean and it was only 5 dollars a night. Plus they had new born puppies that were so cute, and when I asked if I could pet one, one the guys who worked at the guest house jokingly told me yes, put one in your pocket and take it home. We asked about tours to bokor hill station which is really the only thing we wanted to do, and found out that the roads were closed. So we went ahead and booked our tickets to go to the beach for the next day. We then wandered around the city, had some dinner and returned to the guesthouse to relax on the deck in the hammocks right on the river.

After it got dark we sat at a table to have a few beers and relax. It was really cool because the family then began fishing, which was a nightly ritual for them. They used a net which the fish ran into, got stuck in and then they take them out of the net. They also use flash lights to find the big fish and then sometimes throw things into the water in an attempt to scare the big fish into the net. At one point one of the guys in the family got into the water to try to scare the fish. As we were sitting and watching the men fish, the grandmother, baby and the mother were eating dinner and drinking coconut milk. The grandmother soon eagerly offered us a coconut to drink out of and of course we agreed. When everyone was getting ready to go to bed, they informed us that they would be fishing again tomorrow morning at 7 if we wanted to get up and watch.

The next morning they were using fishing poles more than the net. It took them a little bit but finally we heard one of the guys yell my friends my friends look, we saw him holding a really cool looking, pretty good size fish, he told us it was a tiger fish. They caught a few more fish this way and then also got some pretty good size fish in the net. Later we noticed he was eating and he pointed at his plate said tiger fish, kind of crazy but really awesome!! We left that morning sad that we hadn't decided to stay another day because this guesthouse was probably the best experience yet.
