Just a day trip

For just one day we decided to get away from not only the big city and fast pace of Buenos Aires but of Argentina all together and quite literally 'nip' over to Uruguay.

Not exactly a million miles away geographically or culturally but visiting the town of Colonia was definitely a step back from what we had been experiencing so far in Buenos Aires.

The name Colonia is not lost on this place. It's a cute little colonial town that seems to take you through a time warp back to when the Spanish and Portuguese were first showing interest in this part of the world.

Cute little streets, an overwhelming sense of calm, bizarre little cars all over the place and the whole place practically in bloom rekindled memories of moving from the hustle and bustle of Paris onto Brugge... and those are some pretty nice memories!

There's only so much you can do in a small town like this but being there for the afternoon seemed just the right amount of time to spend. It gave us ample opportunity to wander around and soak in the scenery as well as plenty of time to enjoy perhaps the nicest cut of beef we've experienced thus far in South America.

It was a lovely day trip but now it was time to get back to the big city
