Where I stayed
After Paris, our time in Brugge was a breath of fresh air. Sure, it might be insanely touristy but having arrived in the early evening, the place was empty and we practically had all the canals and cobble stone roads to ourselves.
As much as you might want to fight it.. You need to accept that Brugge is an incredibly beautiful city.. regardless of how much has been artificially rebuilt.
Having been surrounded by the French, who one way or another, fit various stereotypes perfectly.. Within minutes of being in Belgium, we both discovered that Belgian people are really friendly and keen to help.
Also, the food caught us by suprise. It may be much simpler than French food but what they do, they do well! The whole city smelt fantastic and it was a real test of character to resist going into every restaurant!
Going into every chocolate shop however, was a different story.
The Belgians can righfully claim their chocolate to be amongst the best...
Then placed on top of a waffle...
...Need I say more...
