We made it to the next state (territory) on the tour - just in time for territory day (the NTs independence day celebrations). Although we nearly didnt make it. We drove the 50kms from Kununarra to the NT border and stopped the car to take photos (as you do). We got back in the Kombi and she wouldnt start - she was scared of the NT! She started of course - just wanted a break.
The drive again was interesting - not much around, but different scenery again - very red dirt, random roadworks and very nice mountain ranges. The roadhouses were the most interesting yet and kept us very entertained. It was also very very hot - at 4pm it was still 33 degrees! We also gained an hour and a half so the 5 hour journey became a 6.5 hour journey!
We finally pulled into Katherine (well a caravan park on the outskirts of Katherine) yesterday afternoon and booked a croc dinner. It was great fun - we went out on a boat on the Katherine Lake with our tourches and hunted crocodiles and then stopped for a bbq dinner (steaks not croc) under the stars with wine and billy tea to finish up! Was a great night :)
Off to Katherine Gorge today and will be staying in the National Parks for the next few nights (hopefully if we can get a spot - everywhere is soooo crowded) so possibly no reception and no updates (i know, i know, calm down everyone - no more tears please - we will be back soon)
On another note - RIP to the Civic Hotel, the best Chicken burgers and Chicken BLTs in Australia (and i know - ive tried them all). Cant believe it wont be there when I get home and will have to find another location for lunch :(
