After 7 days of total relaxation we arrived at the airport leaving plenty of time to check in
. Whilst waiting in line, the airport staff all of a sudden closed the check in counter and just walked off, leaving about 30 people standing around wondering what was happening. As only small planes fly in and out of Phu Quoc, there are many cancellations if the wind is too strong in the morning. So to make the planes lighter they decided not to put any more passengers on. So I joined the line of peeved off passengers and when I noticed locals handing over their tickets and getting boarding passes back I followed suit. Suddenly they were accepting passengers again and we got on our plane arriving in HCMC 90 mins later. What they failed to tell us though was that they had not put any bags on the plane to keep the weight down. So we were left waiting at the airport for hours which meant we missed our bus to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. So now we only had one day to see Cambodia!!!
Our little touch of paradise in Vietnam! This was an unexpected part of our trip but due to cheap flights we decided to try our luck with this little island off the coast of Vietnam. And what a bargain it was! As we had only planned to stay for 4 days we ended up staying for one week and cut down our trip to Cambodia (we actually ended up being in Cambodia for 24 hours). So for 7 days we ate, went diving, got massages, watched the sunset and drank at the local pub with other divers. The massages were $4 an hour and I always got the same girl back who always gave me a big hug whenever I paid her. She told me that her husband made in a day what she would earn in 2 massages. Sounds good but some days she only had 4 massages booked. We also rented a motorbike for the day to check out the diving companies - went to the 5 star Saigon Hotel and wished I had more money!
