After a day of relaxing on the cruise ship at the Palma dock we were off and away to our first stop Tunis, Tunisia. The cruise there took a day and a half and it's quite cool that you go to sleep in Spain and wake up in Africa!

On the cruise you can book tours called Action Ashore trips but which can be quite expensive if you do them at every stop so we decided to do this one on our own. Easier said than done. As we walked out of the port we were confronted by taxi drivers who wanted to take us around for the day to the ruins of Carthage, into Tunis town and then back to the port. All of which we had planned to do by train all in 5 hours. Sounded easy but then we realised that the ruins were spread out and we probably wouldn't have made it to all of them, so we jumped in for a day of sightseeing with the cab driver.

Carthage was interesting but nothing compared to the ruins we saw in Turkey and the ones we were about to see in Rome. And after one hour in the town centre we were bored so we were back on the boat with an hour to spare before cruising again. We heard that the boats stop here for cheap fuel - we could see no other reason.
