It's still Christmas in Funchal til tomorrow when they have celebrations for 6th January

We enjoyed a traditional Maderian folk night last night and were made to join in which proved quite eventful as you had to go round kissing everyone........very nice!! Well it was different anyway.
The next day was beautiful promising a good cruise for our sea adventure aboard the 'Sea Pleasure' we sailed along with another catamaran the 'Seaborn' the sister ship and fishermen hailed us and said they had seen a pod of pilot whales so we raced out to find them but they didn't re-surface instead we found a large pod of spotted dolphins with their young who were very playful alongside the boat. It is very hard to get a good picture as they as quick and we only have a standard digital camera. Colin got the best shot of one leaping out the water.
We passed beneath the Cabo Girao cliff and it looked so high from the sea, we could see our apartments on the top; an impressive cliff. The sail was fantastic if a little choppy on the way back.
After a lovely lunch in the old town we strolled through the streets admiring the last of the Christmas decoration which all come down tomorrow but a special festival and more fireworks are lit to celebrate the end of the holiday.
Home in time to catch the last of the sun on the balcony and a glass of bubbly.. what a lovely day.
