The Rally has officially started now and the Welcome Party was great fun Jenny and Paul took us under their wing being great seasoned 'ralliers'. Although not everyone has arrived yet because of Ferry cancellations due to bad weather at sea, there must be around 80 people here and we’re getting to know nearly everyone as they are all so friendly. It is quite interesting to hear other people’s travel stories and experiences and we have gleaned lots of information about other rallies and good campsites to visit all over the continent. The first evening was an ice breaker to help everyone get to know each other or catch up on news with remembered faces from the previous year.  Being ‘virgins’ we were given a most pleasant introduction to the fun ahead.

With nibbles and free wine we did a fun quiz and played an ‘Irish Raffle’ which was hilarious as you went from table to table claiming someone else’s prize until the last ten numbers drawn out the hat finally are revealed to get a prize. A crazy game but lots of fun.

The sun is really shining during the day now after a frosty morning it warms up pretty quickly to settle at 20 degrees by lunchtime and lasts up to gone 4 o’clock. We sat on the terrace overlooking the pool and chatted most of the afternoon.

The next day I joined a small group of people learning to play hand bells in preparation for the carol concert, we are managing to play ‘Good King Wenceslas quite well. Then we played team boules.

Val and Keith our friends and neighbours from Bridgnorth arrived to spent Christmas at a hotel in Praia da Oura so we went along to say hello and have a meal with them. It’s a very nice complex they are in right by the sea with walkways and lovely beaches so we have arranged later in the week to have a grand picnic on the beach (weather permitting of course).

Wednesday brought more bell ringing practice ready for the carol concert which turned out to be hilarious. Jean, who we met in Cerceres is a fellow novice bell ringer and another lady, Christine; and between us we just couldn’t stop giggling.  The rally leader Bob  entertained us with Dave and Paul as his sidekicks doing a passable sailor routine; all in the best possible taste of course, down to the red satin underpants and borrowed brassieres. Mince pies and mulled wine and many funny hats made it the funniest carol concert I have ever been to. A jolly good night. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s buffet social with a red and white theme who knows what to expect after last night.
