Loved the Old Town, narrow winding streets, interesting boutiques, could easily have bought a designer coat for 2000 Euros if I wasn't on a low budget holiday, Colin thinks I should go on the new game show Black or Red because a) you need no intelligence to win and b) you could win a million!!!(Apparently) I think there's an insult wrapped up there.............!!!!! Anyway I didn't buy the coat!
Shuttered chateaux alongside the canal, a market bussing with chatter, flowers hanging from every balcony and bridge, tempting aromas fill the air from the many creperias and pizzerias but we decide on a la Taverne de maitre Kanter which has a bit of a German ring to it but no sauerkraut in sight; it has the most amazing fish bar and the menu has a long list of temptations to the palette, we go for the Soup de Poisson , never tasted better especially as it was washed down with a fine bottle of Sancerre. A most pleasant lunch accompanied by swans and moorhens on the canal side, sipping wine in glorious sunshine, what more could anyone ask for?! We returned back to camp and having missed the Ferry boat earlier, decided to take the trip round the Lake in a more leisurely fashion i.e .not getting off until we returned to our starting point . A lovely two hour trip the highlight of which was watching the hang gliders appearing out of the hill side, sometimes twenty to thirty all at once, performing their acrobatics in the sky, it must be the nearest thing to being like a bird soaring upwards on the thermal currents - shame we haven't got the courage to try it ourselves....or have we???
Another pleasant experience was meeting Derek and Pauline, a lovely couple from Birmingham, whom we spent a couple of mellow evenings with swapping travel experiences and supping wine. Co-incidentally Derek's brother lives in Alveley which is only a few miles up the road from us so no doubt we will be seeing them again sometime in the future.
