Where I stayed
The Journey South
Incredible journey , such changes in landscapes all beautiful in their own way, we constantly compare to places we know in Britain or Europe and say to ourselves ..........Yes..we have that where we are and then acknowledge yes we have that!....... but.............we have to queue up to see it.! That's sad isn't it ?
We have come all this way to see such wonderful landscapes that equally compare to those we have ...... the major difference is space and less people. We can see why people want to emigrate here, it has what w.e all desire without interference. The only major interference here is the weather!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beyond anyone's control we don't know from one day to the next if we will have clear skies and wonderful sunshine or grey skies and rain, gusty winds or maybe even an earthquake. Having lived in California myself I know the uncertainty and insecurity that brings so feel some empathy for the people we have met here from Christchurch.
This is some extraordinary landscape that thrills us because we know it is untamed and more wild than we know back home. As we look up to Franz Joseph we say 'shall we walk this glacier ???? we have walked one in Iceland how different will this be? We decide no.
We will walk up to the glacier show homage to this disappearing wonder knowing that maybe our grandchildren will not see it as we do. There is no doubt in our minds here in the Southern Hemisphere that Global warming is a reality not a myth.
