Where I stayed
The first day was nice and eventful... we got up early and had parked the car in a garage across the road....we didn't quite read the sign correctly because even though we parked at 9.30pm and the car park closed at 10pm it charged us for 2 full days...at $73 a day eeeeeeeeek!!!! not nice to wake up to....Anthony managed to get our ticket back and then we pretended he had lost the ticket because then it was only $73 not $146...still awful tho and we learnt our lesson not to park there ever again!!!! After the shock of the price we drove to catch the boat to take us to Tangaloma on Moreton island. It was a much nicer day since the last time we were there and a massive pelican greeted us on the beach when we arrived!!! We had about half an hour on the island before the boat left to take us to see the whales so we had a paddle and Anthony found a big stick to play with!
It was about an hours trip around the island to get to the open sea where the whales play and we were served lunch which was nice. The second we hit the open water it became so choppy and about half the boat started throwing up...lovely!!! Once we found a good spot the boat idled and we were on whale watch out. The first thing you see is them shooting blasts of water into the air, followed by maybe a bit of their body out of the water. It was a little disappointing at first because we could see the water shooting up but not much whale...until Mr playful whale came along and decided to show off for the females. He was jumping out of the water and they are so big and beautiful, then he would slap back down on the water, then stick his head back out and slap it on the water to attract the females. It was so cool to see them in the wild and naturally jumping out of the water not being told to by a trainer.
We tracked the whales for about an hour or so and in total we saw 8 of them, some were just swimming along, others were jumping out of the water and some were just poking their tails out and slapping them on the water. It was a very cool experience...except it was that cool that i got a bit excited when they came out the water that i would kind of aim the camera at them and take a bunch of photos but alot turned out to be sky...ooops!!
Anthony was going a little green by the end so he was quite glad to be going back to the calmer waters around the island!!!
That evening after a quick change we met up with some friends from work who were on r&r an they took us to apparently the best Mexican restaurant in Brisbane!!!! We had high expectations as it had been bigged up alot...but alas it was not proper Mexican food and they messed up the guacamole...sad face!!! It was still quite good in a alternative Mexican way!!! Anthony decided he needed to try all the beers on the menu and came across one called Chili Beer...it came with a chill inside of it and was awful!!!! Spicy beer is not a good mixture!!
After the meal we went to a bar for some more drinks and the boys proceeded to get nice and drunk. It was a fun night...but as we are all on camp bed times..by about 10pm we were all ready for bed!!!!!
