Not a Lot of people go to Newcastle but we thought that we would stop there on the way to Sydney as it was a long trip from Byron Bay and we was in no rush to get to Sydney.
Our bus to Newcastle from Byron Bay was about 10 hours and we left about 12 at night so we got on and slept. I was woken by Kayley at about 7 in the morning telling me that there was a weird man in front of us. I was annoyed because she woke me up, but when i saw this 50 year old man playing with a barbie i forgave her. He had a big bag of clothes for her and kept changing her. He had a bit of barb wire that he wrapped round her dresses and he had hang bags that he had made out of mint tins and mini vodka bottles. He kept putting her in different poses and taking photos of her. He did this for 3 hours. He took so many photos he changed his memory card 3 times. We was both praying that he didn't get off in Newcastle and lucky he stayed on. I feel for the people that share a dorm with him. I'm sure he was a backpacker killer.
We got to our hostel and it was really out the way from town but it was really nice. It had a free pool table, ping pong and a really nice pool with a dog that jumps in the pool with you.
Luckily the buses are free in Newcastle so it wasn't so bad to get around.
We got a surf lesson on our 2nd day. The waves were not as big a when I last surfed in Bali but they came a lot faster so it was a lot harder to get out from the beach. The waves were not as good as Bali and it was hard to get up on so Kayley really struggled as it was her 1st time trying to surf. She said the most she got up was on one knee on the board before she got sideswiped and smashed by a wave.We then walked around to the coast to the boggie pools which is a ocean bath made by a old sea captain. he dynamited a big hole in the rocks and it gets filled up by sea water.
In the night we went to a bar and did a pub quiz, this was practice for the backpacker quiz that the hostel was holding in a other pub the next day. We came last so we wasn't expecting a win the next day. The pub gave us all a free meal and cheap drinks which was good and we met Kayleigh and Clare who we planned to meet up with in Sydney.
On the last day we went to the science museum which was meant for kids but it kept us busy for a few hours.
