Twenty four hours in ‘Coffs Harbour’ and we are on our tenth and FINAL bus journey in Australia to the wonderful Sydney… at least I hope it’s wonderful!
Although we only had a short time in Coffs we managed to squeeze in quite a bit of sightseeing thanks to Dave’s Aunt, Judy. She not only drove us round everywhere but gave us a room to crash in her gorgeous house overlooking the beach and made us feel so welcome. Thank-you! No checking-in nor checking-out, it was fabulous.
We arrived on Tuesday late afternoon and it was lovely to meet Judy and her son Mark and have a good chat over a much needed coffee. After settling in Dave and I went for a wander down to ‘Cororo Beach,’ along the coast on the cliff-tops and through the rainforest. Coffs is very peaceful and prettily set with masses of white sand and turquoise waters. We didn’t see much of the town whilst we were there apart from driving through it, but I got the impression it was small with not much to it. The landscape and tranquillity of the harbour is the heart of Coffs.
Back at the house Mark and Judy cooked us a scrumptious BBQ accompanied with ample wine and cheesecake for dessert… it was almost like they knew me! Mmm!
On Wednesday we were up bright and early to see as much as we could before our bus departed in the afternoon. Obviously I had to see the dolphins at the ‘Porpoise Pool’ - a brilliant place similar to Seaworld but on a much smaller scale. Fortunately as it is quite little you can get a lot closer to the animals, and we had kisses from Sealions and Dolphins! The Dolphin show was still very impressive and we were able to help feed some baby penguins, see a reptile show, and view shark and other marine life through underwater tanks. It was a great little gem of a place!
Afterwards we walked along the ‘Coffs Creek’ to the harbour and found a nice café to have lunch in whilst overlooking all the boats. The harbour is stunning! Judy picked us up after lunch and we whooshed round a few more sights before making our way to the bus.
Short but sweet!
