The same day we arrived in Port Mc Neill we took the ferry to Malcolm Island to a beautiful remote place called Sointula. The island was inhabited by Finns and its beaches will be visited by orcas from time to time.
We stayed three days above the local and only pub on the island. The 10 kilometers hike in the coastal rainforest was a beautiful experience. I've never seen such a forest before, a total difference to the one we have experienced in Borneo.
We also visited Alert Bay on the neighboring island which is inhabited by the First Nation people (local indians). And in the evening eating pizza I saw orcas out in the ocean for the first time! What a beautiful sight!
We met a nice couple from Olympia that travels every year, since 10 years, with their sailing boat around the islands. They also invited us on their boat!
And we also met a very nice young couple from Victoria. We were at the same level right away and spend a nice evening. They gave us very helpful hints where to travel and stay with the campervan traveling from Vancouver to Calgary.
