We are sitting in a bar about 4 kilometers south of the Baja Sur border. Quite a distance from our last entry and the bar is helping our nerves to calm down a bit. What a journey. Fierce winds, narrow roads, mountains, and some fording of low water are the norm here. Add to that folks who pass at the first opportunity ( we did not say a safe opportunity) and statements like Oh shit! are not unusual. As the primary driver, Mike never realized that you could have your heart in your mouth for an hour and still breath. Roads are 19 feet wide with no shoulders. Road edge drop offs average 10 inches to 1000 feet. We are 9 feet wide but tractor trailers and big RV's are 10 feet. The prevailing wind is from the west and we are driving south. Think about it and you will soon get that tingly feeling in your knees and other scary parts of your body. Only 400 more miles to a ferry.
Wind and rain and cold are the norm and the constant topic of conversation. The landscape has really changed. Exceptionally verdant farmland and flat roads with the Pacific to our right gave way to a wonderful boulder desert. A new cactus (to us anyway) called Boojum covers the area for 200 Klicks. It looks a bit like a tree or some say an upside down carrot with multiple branches. It grows only here, We have a couple photos that we will attach later.
Now in Grey whale country and will do our best to find some tomorrow or the next day depending on the weather.
