Today we decided to move to another hotel in the centre of town, as last night's was a 15min metro ride away. James found a great hotel online (he's getting pretty good at this traveling thing) for a cheap rate, right on the Gran Via (main street) with a little balcony and everything, it was awesome!

We explored Madrid a bit this afternoon and had a massive lunch – some of the set menu places are amazing value. James excitedly got to bust out the one spanish phrase that he’d learnt – "A coffee with milk please". Never mind the fact that he doesn’t actually like coffee.

Right in the centre of town at the Puerta del Sol there is this huge camp of protesters or something.. we haven't quite worked out what their problem is but they make the usually beautiful square look like a big dirty shelter for the homeless!

Later this evening our sunny day turned into rain again, and we ventured out in search of some tapas bars. Town was fairly quiet seeing as it was a rainy Monday evening but we eventually found a couple of places and stayed out til about 1am. Spanish red wine is very cheap and very very easy to drink. Like the beer in Asia, wine here is cheaper than water! At one bar we were given a free tapa of tuna on bread – something neither of us like but we both ate it, how adventurous are we.
