DAY 24 - Lucern, Switzerland
This morning we travelled back down to Lucern, but this time by cog railway down the other side of the mountain, and were taken to a shop that sold Swiss Army Knives, Swiss Watches and Cookoo Clocks, we couldn't resist a bit of shopping there. We also bought some Swiss Chocolate (of course! And as expected, it was gooooood). We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the township (we skipped the optional lunch - cheese fondue & yodelling, no thanks!). For lunch we had our first dose of McDonalds since home, sad but true, and it tasted exactly the same but it was so much more expensive! The conversion rate for Swiss Franks is very close to the Aussie Dollar, but everything is like triple the price! Bloody Swissies!! I got the BIGGEST meringue EVER for dessert, with chocolate swirls inside, THE BOMB! Still doesn't beat my grandma's meringue though We went and saw the sleeping Lion that's carved into a cliff, after about an hours detour when Matt got us lost in some residential part of Lucern! Pretty funny!
Later in the afternoon we met back up with the rest of the group and had a river cruise back to the hotel. Was very scenic. Something was definitely up with the military though, on a 30min cruise we saw about 5 military jets, 2 helicopters and 2 tanks, hmmm, paranoia anyone?! We then took the cog rail train up the mountain. After dinner, some of the others in the group jumped on Matt & Scotty's idea and walked down part of the mountain to some snow patches, only this time they stole a couple of service trays from the restaurant and used them as snow boards and toboggans. Later that night we checked out the 'Swisscoteque' and danced the night away!
