From the quiet capital to vang vieng is a total change, very touristy small town, only 3 roads and hundred of bars, shops and guest houses. All in aid of tubing down the mekong, frequent bars, swinging into the river and off zip wires.
we spent two nights here, on the second day we did said tubing which was alot of fun - see photo's!

arly doors we awoke for a good breakfast and to get our bus to vang vieng. In true loa style we were packed into a tiny bus, and carted off to where we would meet another bus. Said bus ws broken down and so what seemed like family members popped up with random mini vans, 3rd time lucky we managed to get into one, (this was at 11am, when we had ment to set off at 9am).
We have learnt to take 'loas time' into consideration alot since. Arriving in vang veing, claire did an amazing mission of finding us a bunglow on the side of the mekong - idillic (excpet for the late night bars across the water).
We shopped in the many touristy outlets there are, again as is cusomary in loas everywhere sells exactly the same thing as the place next door. We ate in one of the many restaurants on mats with cushions and low tables, avoiding the special 'happy menu'. We where joined by a few folks we had met on the bus, had a few drinks, headed to Q bar and then to the Island (opposite our bungalow) which had several bars playing different music. loads of people and the most lively place in loas by far!
Saying this, due to how much of a young touristy drinking place this has become in other places in loas there are strict alcohol laws and very few places serve drinks after 11pm and clubs only open until 1.30am,
DAy 2 we participated in the customary 'tubing'. Heading down the mekong in a tube, being pulled into bars by ropes with bottles on the end, we tended only to make it 2metres down the river before being lurred into a new bar by free drinks, shots and food that was on offer. There are zip wires and swings to jump off from raised plateforms. I was loving the tarzan style water sports, claire and Louise tooka bit more talking into it (buckets of  loa loa) before they took the jump. Louise managing to hook a boy into doing it with her also managed to bell flop and attained a bruise all down her leg as a momento.
Once through the bars the scenery was amazing, rushing to get the tubes back for 6 we got a long boat trip down the river, seeing cattle bathing, loa kids playing and villagers fishing in the river.
Hang overs kicking in, we headed for a rest, had dinner - western pizza was in order and some drinks. With the island only a bridge away we had a short trip over.
