Susie signed us up for a snorkeling trip to Bamboo Island, near Phi Phi, where we would go and have a good time and spend some time in a nice Thai national park. First, we snorkeled around a reef and it was beautiful, fish everywhere, taking bites, sampling sunscreen, easy to touch and absolutely colorful and gorgeous. A huge barracuda-like fish scared me out of the water.
Through some misunderstanding, we landed on an island with a small but blindingly white beach, a bit of shade, and towering rock faces we weren't allowed to touch. We debated whether this was Bamboo but decided that it wasn't, because nowhere did it say "National Park" and no one charged us 200B each.
That happened on our next stop, Bamboo for real this time, where we were greeted by the friendly park ranger. Picnicked, dozed, nothing new. Snorkeled around a bit, bit cold, some attractive fish. And then we were on our way back and things got a little out of control, because two of us insisted on sitting on top of the boat deck, where waves would smash into and over us, with very little to hold on to. Crazy?
I'm going to try and upload the video of this boat trip now.
